FOOD & HEALTH ACADEMY
Food and health in dialogue
A healthy nutrition implicates more than a willingness to cut down on high calory foods and snacks between meals. More than that, it depends on the willingness to acquire information about food quality, food origin and food processing.
The Food & Health Academy at the University of Hamburg was started in the winter term 2010/2011 with a series of public lectures on health and nutrition. Outstanding scientists reported on current problems including obesity, type II diabetes, metabolic and mental problems including anorexia and bulimia.
The opening lecture on October 25, 2010, coincided with the founding of the Food and Health Academy. That first lecture was presented by Prof. Dr. rer. physiol. Dr. h.c. Ulrike Beisiegel, Director of the Institute for Molecular Cell Biology at the Center for Experimental Medicine at Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf and President of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, with the title „Lipids and myocardial infarction“.
What do we want to achieve?
The FHA is a forum designed to provide information on health and nutrition, designed to serve as an interface in the dialogue between scientists and the general public in the areas of food and nutrition, in order to provide information on healthy nutrition and food supply.
The topics are presented by leading experts in the respective fields; controversial aspects have been included in the discussions. All presentations were recorded and will be made available via this internet platform.
We are looking forward to your next visit to the University of Hamburg!
