A doctorate often follows a Master’s degree or a State Exam for those who wish to pursue a career in academia or research (Dr. rer. nat.).
We are conducting innovative and interdisciplinary research projects enabling a comprehensive view on food safety along the entire chain of production. Generally, research projects can cover fundamental research or applied sciences and are not limited to graduates form the University of Hamburg.
A doctorate in natural sciences can take 3 to 4 years to complete. A substantial part of the doctorate is the individual research on the respective PhD topic. The final exam is the dissertation (written doctoral research work) followed by an oral doctorate defense (disputation).
